F1 News: Michael Schumacher signs ‘MS’ on Stewart helmet (Update)
(GMM) The Jackie Stewart family was surprised when they unzipped the bag to see Michael Schumacher’s initials on F1 legend Stewart’s iconic helmet.
It emerged over the Bahrain GP weekend that, with the guiding hand of the seven time world champion’s wife Corinna, Schumacher managed to scrawl a ‘MS’ on the helmet along with every other living F1 title winner.
The helmet was sent to the 56-year-old German’s location via DHL, Bild newspaper reveals.
“The (dementia) charity organization was initially unsure whether it would be disrespectful to inquire with the Schumachers,” the publication added. “But the contact was made.”
Corinna obliged, but Paul Stewart, who once ran the Stewart F1 team alongside his famous father Jackie, admits he was skeptical.
“Our family has known the Schumacher family for a long time,” Paul said.
“We weren’t sure we would get the autograph until we saw it on the helmet. It was a wonderful thing – a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

(GMM) With the help of his wife, Michael Schumacher has signed his initials on one of Sir Jackie Stewart’s old Formula 1 helmets.
The seven time world champion and F1 legend has not been seen or heard from publicly in almost 12 years, having sustained serious brain injuries in a skiing accident.
But when Stewart, 85, wanted every living world champion to sign one of his old helmets for a dementia charity auction, Schumacher’s wife obliged.

“According to our information, it was important to Corinna because all the other living world champions had signed,” Bild newspaper reports.
Stewart, however, told Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper that Corinna had to guide 56-year-old Schumacher’s hand to sign a simple ‘MS’ – a much simpler version than his familiar old autograph.
“It is wonderful that Michael could sign the helmet in this worthy cause,” said the triple world champion. “His wife helped him, and it completed the set of every single champion still with us.”
