Supercars News: Waters completes sweep in wet Sydney finale
Monster Energy Ford’s Cam Waters has claimed a perfect start to the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship, completing a clean sweep of poles and race wins at the Thrifty Sydney 500 with a commanding victory in a dramatic Race 3 at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The Tickford Racing star mastered tough conditions in a race that started dry and ended with rain, crossing the line 6.2 seconds clear of Red Bull’s defending Champion, Will Brown.Chaz Mostert stormed through the field from 10th to claim third in the Mobil1 Optus Mustang.
Waters’ flawless weekend saw him win every qualifying session and every race, giving him an early championship lead with 315 points (300 for three race wins, 15 for the fastest lap in all three races).
“How awesome is that? Such a mega weekend and an awesome way to start 2025,” Waters said.
“I knew we had fast cars coming here, but I didn’t expect to be this strong. The team nailed everything – the car, the pit stops, the strategy. I can’t thank them enough.
“It’s massive,” Waters said of his dominant start to the season.
“Having speed in all conditions, being able to back it up every race, it’s a huge confidence boost for the team.”
Waters launched from pole but had to fight for the lead into Turn 1 after his combatant from last night, Red Bull’s Broc Feeney got the jump off the line. With the inside line, Waters held his nerve and kept the Monster Mustang ahead.

All eyes turned to the weather radar, with teams balancing strategy and risk as clouds approached from over the Blue Mountains.
The first round of stops came before the rain, with Feeney pitting first on Lap 17, Waters responding a lap later, and Brown following suit. Waters retained his lead, extending it to four seconds over Brown, while Feeney settled into third.
A second round of pit stops unfolded smoothly for the leaders, but there was chaos in the pack. Matt Stone Racing’s Cameron Hill left pit lane with his fuel churn still attached, and Erebus rookie Cooper Murray clashed with Feeney at Turn 9, earning himself a 15-second penalty after spinning into the gravel.
With 11 laps to go, rain hit the circuit.

While Waters maintained control, the battle for third intensified, with Mostert capitalizing on the Feeney-Murray incident to steal the final podium position.
Kostecki pulled off a bold move on Feeney late in the race to secure fourth, with Feeney rounding out the top five.
Despite the changing conditions, Waters never looked challenged, managing the gap perfectly to claim victory.
The 2025 Supercars season continues with four races at the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint at the Louis Vutton Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 13-16.
