IMSA News: BMWs run 1-2 in Roar before the 24 Session 4
The RLL BMW’s ran 1-2 in Session 4 of the Roar before the 24 IMSA test at Daytona International Speedway. Sheldon van der Linde in the #25 M Hybrid V8 turned the fastest lap of 1m36.196s.
The #24 BMW with Dries Vanthoor at the wheel was second with a time of 1m36.600s.
“It’s positive to see that all the hard work over the winter is paying off,” van der Linde said after the session. “It’s only the Roar, we know a lot of people are sandbagging quite a lot, but it’s a good way to start the event. The car feels good.
“We didn’t know where we would be, and everyone’s doing something different with programs. But we expect to be stronger this year. The team has taken steps forward, with new engineers bringing the knowledge of other cars over.”
The two sandbagging like hell Penske Porsche’s came closest to the BMWs with Mathieu Jaminet putting the #6 third and Nick Tandy in the #7 963 fourth with 1m36.970s and 1m37.136s laps respectively.
The sandbagging like hell #40 WTR Cadillac completed the top five, with Jordan Taylor logging the car’s fastest time, a 1m37.237s.
In LMP2, Tom Dillmann was quickest with a 1m40.272s lap in the Inter Europol ORECA. Reigning GTP Drivers’ Champion Dane Cameron was 2nd in the AO Racing ‘Spike’ ORECA with a time of 1m40.279s.
Lamborghini looked strong again in GTD. Andrea Caldarelli led the GTD cars #9 Pfaff Lamborghini Huracán with a lap of 1m48.049s.
The GTD pace setter was Michelle Gatting in the Iron Dames Porsche. The Dane’s best lap was a 1m48.173s.
