Automotive News: We Review the impressive Kia EV9 GT
The Kia EV9 GT-Line AWD is a bold statement in the electric SUV segment. You can tell this as soon as you approach the EV9 with its imposing stance and futuristic design. This three row all electric SUV, blends luxury, technology, and sustainability to create a compelling package for families looking for room and luxury.
The Kia EV9 is about the same size as the gas powered Kia Telluride. They even share a similar shape so it can be difficult to tell them apart. The big difference is that the EV9 is all electric and it is one of the best electric vehicles that you can buy.
Let’s start with stepping inside the EV9 GT-Line which is an experience in itself. The minimalist cabin with clean lines and soft ambient lighting, exudes an air of serene sophistication. High-quality materials dominate, with vegan leather and sustainably sourced wood trim creating a luxurious and eco-conscious environment. The focus on passenger comfort is evident, with heated and ventilated front and second-row seats and tons of other luxury features.
Reductionism is a motif that envelops the cabin of the EV9. Centrally mounted, hidden-until-lit haptic switches for key infotainment features appear when the EV9 is turned on. The dual-level, floating center console stretches from the first to the second row, offering under-tray stowage to front passengers and cupholders and an available sliding storage console for rear passengers. Hidden in front of the driver is an optional, full-color head-up display. An available video mirror replaces the traditional rearview mirror with a camera view with a flick of the lower tab.
Technology seamlessly integrates into the interior. A panoramic sunroof bathes the cabin in natural light, while a 14-speaker 708 watt Meridian Premium Sound System delivers an immersive audio experience. The centerpiece of the dashboard is a sleek and modern digital cockpit, featuring dual 12.3-inch curved displays that provide a wealth of entertainment options. Navigating the intuitive interface is easy and intuitive.
Beyond the impressive technology, the EV9 GT-Line prioritizes passenger comfort and convenience. Kia considers every seat inside the EV9 to be executive-class. The second-row seats offer exceptional legroom and recline significantly, allowing passengers to relax and enjoy the journey. The “Relaxation Mode” transforms the second-row seats into near-horizontal positions, creating a tranquil environment for passengers to unwind during long journeys.
The EV9 GT-Line is a family car but it can be a quite a performer with a powerful dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. Â delivering 379 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. This translates to exhilarating acceleration, propelling the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in 5 seconds flat to a top speed of 124 mph. Despite its size and weight, the EV9 exhibits surprising agility and responsiveness in corners, thanks to its advanced all-wheel-drive system and multi-link rear suspension.
When it comes to electric cars, the big question is range. The vehicle utilizes a large 99.8-kWh battery pack, providing ample range for extended journeys. The 350kW DC fast charging capability allows for rapid recharging, enabling drivers to quickly replenish the battery at compatible charging stations.
Keep in mind that the EV9 is one of few EVs that can use the super fast public chargers. Those chargers have the capability to charge at 350 kw, however the EV9’s maximum is 210 kw.
So if you pay for the super fast 350 kw charger, you can only use up to 210 kw but that is still good enough to charge the EV9 in only 24 minutes. The official EPA-estimated range is around 270 miles and you can pretty much rely on those numbers.
We took the EV9 on a long road trip and the long range and the super fast charging capability really provided lots of comfort and we were never worried about being stuck somewhere.
Beyond its impressive technology the EV9 GT-Line offers a unique blend of luxury and practicality. Its spacious and versatile interior provides ample room for passengers and cargo, making it an ideal vehicle for families and those with active lifestyles. It is smooth and extremely quiet and long trips become effortless and easy.
The Kia EV9 GT-Line AWD represents the future of electric mobility, seamlessly blending cutting-edge technology with sustainable practices and supreme comfort. EV9 prices start out at $54,900 while our GT-Line starts out at $74,000. That is not a small amount of money but it is significantly cheaper than much of the competition. If you are in the market for a family car, the EV9 should be considered, even if you are not considering an electric vehicle, the EV9 may just change your mind.
