Francesco Bagnaia wins 2024 season finale

MotoGP News: Bagnaia wins race, Martin title in Barcelona

Italian factory Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia won his 11th MotoGP race of 2024, but customer Ducati rider Jorge Martin clinched his maiden MotoGP title with a third-place finish behind Marc Marquez in the Barcelona GP.

Marquez, the six-time champion riding a year old Ducati bike, managed to close the gap again as the race drew to a close, but Bagnaia did enough to hang on to the win.

Martin held a 19-point lead in the championship over Bagnaia and only needed to finish inside the top nine to clinch the title.

Martin wins title

Although Bagnaia led away from pole position and controlled the race at the front, Martin cruised to a third place finish and won the title by 10 points.

He became the first rider to be crowned champion on a customer bike in the MotoGP era.

Marquez won his duel with factory Ducati rider Enea Bastianini for third place in the championship, as he prepares to take the latter’s place at the factory Ducati team in 2025.

Top-3 points finishers Bagnaia (2nd), Martin (1st) and Marquez (3rd)
