Supercars: Will Brown Spins-N-Wins, Last-To-First in Adelaide
In a classic spin-and-win finale, Will Brown has put an exclamation point on his historic 2024 season with a last-to-first win in the final race of the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship season.
Toowoomba’s Brown clinched the 2024 championship yesterday, but his win today was the wildest of his career to date.
After an early Safety Car for Matt Payne being punted into the tire barrier, Brown was spun by former teammate Brodie Kostecki on Lap 9, dropping to 22nd.
However, the 2024 champion put the foot down and charged through the field to storm to his 10th and best win.
Heading into the race’s second half, it appeared to be a battle between Saturday’s winner Broc Feeney and Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Chaz Mostert.
The pair made their final pit stops together on Lap 49 of 78, with Feeney being released into the side of Mostert and incurring a 15-second penalty.
Desperately trying to get past Mostert and minimize the impact of his penalty, Feeney made a late dive on Mostert into Turn 6 on Lap 63 and spun the two-time Bathurst 1000 winner into the tire barrier, with Feeney penalized a further 15 seconds.
Mostert carried on in the effective lead, but with a damaged car was passed by Brown on Lap 67. The Gold Coaster survived a late attack from fellow Ford drivers Will Davison and Thomas Randle to finish second, with Randle claiming the final spot on the podium.
The robust, elbows out style of racing shown today has already drawn comparison to what fans could see in 2025, when Supercars introduces its first ever Finals series, and four drivers will head into the season finale with a chance to win the Supercars title.
The highly-anticipated 2025 Repco Supercars Championship kicks off three months from now at the Sydney 500, February 21-23 at Sydney Motorsport Park.
