Sections 8.8.10.4a: Tires and Wheels

Note: Lug nut(s) not properly installed.

Crew chief (Kevin Johnson) has been fined $5,000.

During the NASCAR Cup Series event, the right-front wheel of Erik Jones’ No. 43 Legacy Motor Club Toyota Camry XSE detached during the race on Lap 70 under the first caution period. This incident, occurring as Jones attempted to regain lead lap status, directly impacted his performance, cementing a 25th place finish — a result that threatens his position in the ongoing playoffs.

As a results, John Rosselli, front-tire changer, and Kellen Mills, jack man for the Legacy Motor Club team, are suspended for the Cup Series Playoff races at Homestead-Miami Speedway and Martinsville Speedway.

They will be replaced by Bryan Backus (changer) and Matt Wilps (jack), per Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports.

“A lost wheel violates Sections 8.8.10.4.A & C in the NASCAR Rule Book, which concerns the ‘loss or separation of an improperly installed tire(s)/wheel(s) from the vehicle.'”

In parallel, three Xfinity cars with the lug nut infractions were the No. 10 for Kaulig Racing Chevrolet (Daniel Dye), the No. 27 Jordan Anderson Racing (Jeb Burton) Chevrolet and the No. 38 RSS Racing Ford (Matt DiBenedetto).
