Despite the heavy hit, the pair were able to continue with Pourchaire in eighth and Canapino in ninth at the time. They finished 10th and 12th respectively.

Despite no serious harm being done, Canapino IndyCar fans threatened to kill Pourchaire.

“I’m sad I received so much hate and death threats in the last 24 hours for such a small incident in the Detroit GP,” said the 20-year-old.

“I hope people can understand that we are all humans and we can make mistakes. But it’s not normal to abuse people online. Please be kind to each other.”

A joint statement was issued by McLaren and Juncos Hollinger Racing condemning the reaction to the incident.
