Formula 1 Rumor: Hitech to sue to find out why they lost

Only the Andretti-Cadillac team were approved by the FIA to be the 11th team on the F1 grid, but one of the losers, Hitech, wants to know why.

Andretti brought another OEM to the table, which is significant.  It is what Team Principals said was required in their eyes because a new OEM would have a positive impact on F1 and help justify an 11th team diluting the prize fund.

Hitech’s proposal is said to have offered more money, to offset the prize fund dilution – $600 million instead of the current $200 million anti-dilution fee.

However, the Formula One Management Group (FOM) has pushed back hard on having any more teams added to the grid, so at this point no new team may get into F1.

If FOM rejects Andretti-Cadillac they face a huge anti-competition lawsuit being filed with the European Courts by Andretti-Cadillac because the Concorde Agreement and the FIA regulations allow up to 12 teams and the Andretti-Cadillac bid met all the FIA criteria.

If Andretti and Cadillac prevail, they could be awarded a huge sum of money by the EU courts, and the negative publicity is something Formula 1 does not really need.

Just when the sport is gaining traction in the USA, pissing off the American fanbase could be even worse than the huge fine they will have to pay Andretti and Cadillac.
