IndyCar: Saturday Morning Report from WWTR ** 2nd Weather Update **

The rain has stopped at WWTR and the safety trucks are drying the racetrack.  There has been no announcement as to what is going to happen next.

There is another cell coming towards the area in a short time, so we may have a short window to run an IndyCar practice or an INDY NXT session.  Nothing has been decided as of 2 pm.

A massive cell of severe weather has moved over the racetrack.   It is currently raining heavily, and it is very windy.   We will update you as soon as a new schedule is announced for today.

Today is practice and qualifying for the IndyCar Series at the World Wide Technology Raceway (WWTR) for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500.

Rain is in the forecast with much cooler temperatures predicted for today, in the mid-80s,  compared to yesterday’s 103 degrees.

Firestone is bringing an alternate tire for this race for the first time on an oval.  Each driver is allowed two sets of alternates, which will have a red band on them.  The new tire is not permitted to be used for qualifying.   Per INDYCAR rules, each entry must start the race on the primary (black) tire and must use one set of blacks and one set of sticker alternate tires for at least two laps in the race.

Josef Newgarden, Team Penske driver of the No 2 Hogan Transportation Chevrolet, has won the last five ovals races and is the defending winner for the 2022 race.  Will he add another win for this season and close the championship points gap with Alex Palou and Scott Dixon?

Here is the track schedule for today in local time:

10-11 am          INDYCAR Practice

1 pm                     Qualifying, single car/cumulative time of two laps

4-4:30 pm        High-line session

4:45-5:45 pm    Final INDYCAR practice session
