IndyCar: State of Tennessee to honor Josef Newgarden

Indianapolis 500 champion Josef Newgarden, a Nashville resident, will be honored by the State of Tennessee with a day of recognition leading up to the third annual Big Machine Music City Grand Prix.

After becoming the first Tennessee native to win the Indy 500 in May, Newgarden swept the two IndyCar Series races over the weekend at Iowa Speedway giving him four victories this season.

Tennessee Department of Economic & Community Development commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter and Tourist Development commissioner Mark Ezell will present Newgarden with the honor on July 31 at The Bridge Building.

The recognition event will take place on Monday July 31, 2023 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm at the Bridge Building Event Space. The address is 2 Victory Avenue, Nashville, TN 37213.

The Big Machine Music City Grand Prix is a three-day event of racing and music from August 4-6.

Ticket packages, Clubs, and Suites are available to purchase to watch the big event. Fans can choose their optimal grandstand seat to watch the driver compete.

Drivers will compete in the 80 lap, 2.1 mile, 11 turn course track. The track races around Nissan Stadium, over the Cumberland River, and curves around downtown Nashville.

Live music will be playing each day with a special headline concert on Friday and Saturday nights.

The event will serve as the kickoff for the Aug. 4-6 Music City Grand Prix on the streets of Nashville. Newgarden finished 10th in the inaugural Music City Grand Prix and sixth last year.

Newgarden, a two-time IndyCar Series champion, is currently in second in the IndyCar standings trailing Alex Palou by 80 points with five races remaining this season.
