IndyCar: Saturday Morning Update from the GMR Grand Prix

Good morning from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  It is cloudy with a feeling of moisture in the air this morning.  The weather report is better today than yesterday’s, with isolated thunderstorms, predicted for this afternoon right around race time.  Temperatures should be 80 degrees by time for the GMR Grand Prix .

Last year’s Grand Prix was run during a combination of light rain and heavy rain in the last 20 laps.  This caused an issue where the drivers could not see out of the aeroscreen when the rain was heavy.

To correct this issue, two pieces have been engineered and can be added to the IndyCar shock cover to help direct some of the rain away from the aeroscreen.   It did rain here yesterday, but not when the NTT INDYCAR Series was on track.  So the new solution has not been tested yet.

Here is the schedule for today’s events:

8-8:40 a.m.: USF2000 Race 2

8:55-9:45 a.m.: USF Pro 2000 Race 2

11:15-11:45 a.m.: NTT INDYCAR SERIES Warm-up

Noon-12:40 p.m.: USF2000 Race 3

1:05 p.m.: INDY NXT by Firestone “Drivers Start Your Engines”
