F1: Damson Idris to play a young Lewis Hamilton in Brad Pitt movie (2nd Update)

Brad Pitt and his film crew have received special permission to complete the first parade lap at Silverstone ahead of this year’s British GP against the likes of F1 ace Lewis Hamilton as he films his latest blockbuster.

The filming was pushed by movie and race bosses to ensure footage is as realistic as possible in the as-yet-untitled movie.

A movie insider says: “Watching Brad Pitt leading the field in the British Grand Prix will be an incredible and surreal moment for TV viewers and fans at Silverstone this July.”

Brad plays a veteran F1 driver who comes out of retirement to mentor a younger hotshot, thought to simulate a young Lewis Hamilton, hence why a black actor was chosen to play the young driver role.

Since Hamilton is co-producing the movie, he wants to cement his legacy, and what better way to do that than in a Brad Pitt movie.  Of course, we can predict that the movie will show the young Hamilton eventually beating the veteran.

Since details of this movie are scarce, we have added some photos below to support our speculation that the movie may be written to lead us to believe a Schumacher character, played by Brad Pitt, comes out of retirement to mentor a young Lewis Hamilton character, played by Damson Idris?

Or is it all just a coincidence?

Lewis Hamilton is co-producer, and it appears he is pushing the movie to be about a young Lewis Hamilton character with veteran driver, played by Brad Pitt, being his senior mentor.

The untitled feature follows Pitt as a racer who comes out of retirement to mentor a younger driver and take his final stab at glory on the track as the younger driver’s teammate.

Sort of reminds us of a scenario where Michael Schumacher comes out of retirement to mentor a young Lewis Hamilton. It did not actually work out that way because Schumacher was replaced at Mercedes by Hamilton, but it might have because Schumacher did come out of retirement to drive for Mercedes, and he helped build the Mercedes design team that ended up giving Hamilton a superior car for so many years.

Following months of meetings, auditions and even several days of driving tests, Apple Studios, Joseph Kosinski and Jerry Bruckheimer look to have found their race car driver to steer their anticipated racing film set in the world of F1. Sources tell Deadline that Damson Idris has been tapped to co-star opposite Brad Pitt. Kosinski is directing.

Kosinski will produce his untitled feature alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films (Top Gun: Maverick), seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton through his Dawn Apollo banner and Plan B, with Copper CEO Penni Thow serving as executive producer.

About to retire 7-time World Champion Michael Schumacher and future 7-Time Champion Lewis Hamilton in 2010. Will the movie lead us to believe a Schumacher character, played by Brad Pitt, comes out of retirement to mentor a young Lewis Hamilton character, played by Damson Idris? Or is it all just a coincidence?
