F1: Max Verstappen voted Dutch Athlete of the Year for the third time

For the second consecutive year, Max Verstappen was voted ‘Dutch Athlete of the Year’ at the NOS | NOC*NSF Sportgala in Amsterdam. It was the third time that the two-time Formula 1 World Champion was given the Jaap Eden Award, following his first win in 2016 and his second in 2021.

The Dutch Oracle Red Bull Racing driver obtained the most votes after being shortlisted with track cyclist Harrie Lavreysen and speed skater Thomas Krol.

Max’ sister Victoria had the honor of collecting the award and said: “Our whole family has worked hard for this and it’s amazing to get this recognition. I’m grateful to be able to collect the award on behalf of Max.”

The Dutch Athlete of the Year category is decided by the votes of athletes and trainers, which account for 50% of the votes. The other half is based on the vote of a professional voting panel.
