IndyCar: McLaughin seeks ride at Daytona and Le Mans without Penske

Scott McLaughlin is targeting starts in sports cars, but says it won’t be with his IndyCar team.

Team Penske, who he races for in IndyCar, has partnered with Porsche to establish squads in the IMSA SportsCar Championship and FIA World Endurance Championship.

Previously, Team Penske has taken drivers out of its IndyCar program to compete in events like the 24 Hours of Daytona and Sebring 12 Hours in the United States.

McLaughlin spoke with media, including Channel 9’s Wide World of Sports in Australia, upon returning to Australia off the back of his breakout second IndyCar season.

Asked if a start at Daytona and later in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the new Porsche Penske Motorsport program was a possibility, McLaughlin said he’s planning to contest those events but that it wouldn’t be with that team.

“Not [2023], at least,” said McLaughlin.

“I’m sort of working on a few other things in the pipeline about hopefully trying to do those races.

“I’ve sort of got a few things in the works. It won’t be with Porsche, no.”
