Rumor: Mercedes F1 eyes Charles Leclerc
It is no secret that Charles Leclerc is getting tired of Ferrari’s strategy mistakes, and Ferrari is getting tired of Leclerc’s mental mistakes during the race, although that could be from trying to carry Ferrari’s inferior car.
The latest Ferrari blunder was Friday during qualifying in Brazil.
Now rumors are circulating that Mercedes-AMG, Toto Wolff and Jim Ratcliffe (Ineos) are preparing an offer to lure Leclerc away from Ferrari starting in 2024 when his Ferrari contract ends.
Leclerc’s manager Nicholas Todt is said to be completely focussed on getting Leclerc out of Ferrari and over to Mercedes.
But who would Leclerc replace at Mercedes?
Possibly, George Russell, but they just signed him.
Although Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff are talking about a new multi-year deal with the team, will it only be to drive?
Perhaps Hamilton will hang up his driving gloves after 2023, but stay on with the team in some management, or spokesperson role given his age, and Leclerc will take his seat.
That would give Mercedes two fast young drivers in Russell and Leclerc for the future years.
Hmm………
