IndyCar: Blomqvist tops special test at Sebring

Five IndyCar teams tested five young drivers in a private test on the Sebring 1.7-mile short course today.  The purpose of the test was to ascertain whether they liked to drive an IndyCar and whether they had the speed to someday race one competitively.

  • IMSA star Tom Blomqvist tested the No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Honda
  • F2 race winner Juri Vips tested the #15 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda
  • Formula E driver Jake Dennis tested the #27 Andretti Autosport Honda
  • F2 race winner Marcus Armstrong tested the #51 Dale Coyne Racing w/RWR Honda
  • Former IMSA racer, Argentinean Agustin Canapino, tested the #77 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevy

Running 90 laps, Blomqvist (shown above) turned the fastest lap at 52.71s, 0.33s quicker than Juri Vips (53.04s) in 2nd who managed 155 laps.

Jake Dennis was 3rd quick for Andretti Autosport (53.19s), 0.48s behind after 90 laps.

Running 131 laps, Marcus Armstrong was 4th fastest (53.47s), 0.76s off the pace while Agustin Canapino was the slowest (54.11s), a whopping 1.4s behind after 99 laps, however, he never drove such a powerful single seat open-wheel race car before.
