F1: Porsche waiting on final 2026 engine regulations (Update)

It’s no longer a secret that Audi and Porsche will join the F1 grid in some capacity in 2026 when the new regulations come into play.

An announcement about the deal was expected to occur at the Austrian Grand Prix earlier this year, but it was delayed due to the 2026 engine regulations not being finalized yet.

Now it’s all but confirmed thanks to a recent trademark filing at the German Patent and Trade Mark Office. Porsche filed a trademark for the word “F1nally,” which is a hint all by itself. But it’s the various classes in which Porsche filed that tell the full story.

(GMM) Red Bull has confirmed that “constructive discussions” are taking place with Porsche.

Mandatory antitrust filings with about 20 non-European countries have revealed that the two companies are working on a 50 percent buyout of Red Bull Racing by the Volkswagen-owned German sports carmaker.

Eric van Haren, the correspondent for the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, contacted Red Bull for an official reaction.

“As has been previously stated, the companies remain engaged in constructive discussions,” the statement rads.

“We all are looking forward to the satisfactory finalization of the FIA’s various sporting, financial and technical regulations for 2026.”

Red Bull’s top Austrian official said recently: “I only know that the VW Group will get involved when the regulations are set.

“That is not the case yet.”

It is expected that finalization of the 2026 engine regulations will be confirmed by late August, although a rumored August 4th date is making the rounds for the announcement by Porsche.
