IndyCar: Herta tops Practice 2 for Honda Indy GP of Toronto

Ahead of qualifying in less than 3 hours, Andretti Honda ace Colton Herta turned the fastest lap in the 2nd practice session for the Honda Indy GP of Toronto.

Herta’s time of 1m00.0471s on used hard black tires sets up qualifying times below the 1-minute mark.

Herta, hot off his F1 test this past week for McLaren, was just 0.1611s ahead of Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson.

Will Power was 3rd for Penske Chevy ahead of his teammate Scott McLaughlin in 4th.

Rahal Honda driver Christian Lundgaard rounded out the top-5

The session had several issues that parked drivers.  Alex Palou made contact with inside and outside barrier in Turn 2 eight minutes into the session.  The damage had him sit out the rest of practice while his Chip Ganassi Racing team work on repairing his number 10 NTT DATA car.

Shortly after Palou’s yellow flag, Josef Newgarden ended his final practice session when his no 3 Hitachi Chevrolet reported an oil pressure issue on his car.

The session ended early when Takuma Sato clouted the turn 6 wall.  The Dale Coyne driver made contact with the barrier at the exit of Turn 6.
