F1: Miami GP track has already won drivers’ hearts

F1 is yet to touch down in Miami ahead of the Miami International Autodrome’s maiden Grand Prix, but the drivers already appear to be in love with the track and the event.

It remains to be seen whether F1’s newest circuit will be a great racing venue, but that has not stopped drivers from praising the track.

Sergio Perez, Yuki Tsunoda and Valtteri Bottas have all complimented the layout, with former Mercedes driver Bottas forecasting an overtake frenzy on Sunday.

The track was designed by British-based Apex Circuit Design, with support from Formula 1. It is a fast, flowing temporary venue with a number of high-speed sections that lead to sudden, long braking zones, offering plenty of overtaking options.

AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly drove the track on Red Bull’s simulator and said: “I’ve tried it and I must say it looks pretty awesome. I really, really liked the layout.

“There’s quite a lot of high-speed sections, it’s quite challenging with an unusual type of extremely long corners, and very long straights.”

And Gasly is not just excited about the race track.

“I think we should have some pretty good American entertainment, good entertainment, the whole weekend,” added Gasly.

“I’m very excited about it and the location is very unique, so I’m very hyped about the whole weekend.”
