RRL IndyCar team chooses contractor for new headquarters

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) announced today that Renier Construction has been named the construction manager for the team’s new global headquarters in Zionsville, Ind. Renier Construction will be in charge of both design as well as planning for future construction of the new facility. Renier has partnered with Architectural Alliance who will serve as the architect of record for the build.

“Based on my previous experiences in working with Renier, they were the perfect fit for this project. I had really enjoyed working with their design-build team earlier on a Lexus dealership in Dayton, Ohio and then again with the shop in Hilliard, Ohio. The way that they do business matches the full ownership group’s expectations – selecting them was a non-negotiable for me,” said Bobby Rahal, co-owner of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing with David Letterman and Mike Lanigan. “It’s also incredibly fulfilling to see this project come to life. Bill Heifner and I have been working to bring this project to life since the 90’s.”

Bobby Rahal has worked with Renier for over 30 years. Together, with John Higgins, they built Lexus of Dayton in 1991. Best known for the way they do business, Renier Construction is well suited to serve as the construction manager, overseeing this project from start to finish.

“It’s an honor to continue to serve Bobby Rahal and all of RLL,” said Bill Heifner, Founder and Chairman of Renier Construction. “It will be extremely satisfying for me personally and professionally to see this project through as Bobby and I have worked and reworked plans for a new race shop in Indianapolis for many years. We’ve had a good relationship and have worked on multiple projects together over the last 30 years.”

The 115,000 square-foot facility, which will occupy 13 acres southeast of the downtown area in Zionsville, will allow RLL to consolidate its existing INDYCAR SERIES operations in Brownsburg, as well as its IMSA operations in Hilliard, Ohio. The new building will feature office and event space as well as automotive R&D and light manufacturing operations to support the dynamic functions of RLL’s racing teams. The project will commence the first quarter of 2021 and is expected to be fully operational by early 2022.
