4 IndyCar drivers crash before race starts
Three Andretti Autosport Hondas plus Ed Carpenter’s Chevy crashed out even before the green flag flew for the first of two Bommarito 500 races at the WWT oval.
The start was very slow and drivers checked-up and before you could blink an eye Oliver Askew plowed into Simon Pagenaud, who plowed into Zach Veach, who in turn plowed into Marco Andretti, who plowed into Ed Carpenter, and Alexander Rossi.
Alex Palou (who stepped out of line early) and Oliver Askew received penalties.
It was an embarrassing moment caused by rolling starts because IndyCar does not use standing starts.
