Dyson team eyes Grand-Am race
While both spent time catching up with old friends, they also joined Essex's main drivers Harrison Brix and James Gue behind the wheel. “The idea is to see how the cars perform and enjoy the company of my son," said Rob Dyson, whose Dyson Racing Team owns 15 overall Rolex Series triumphs. “Maybe we will put a program together to run the 24 Hours (at Daytona), which is a great event on anybody's racing calendar. To have won it twice, I'd like to win it a third time, but do it with Chris in the car with me."
Both Dyson's admit that there is much work to be done before they commit to driving in the 2005 Rolex 24 At Daytona. Nevertheless, their appearance at the test is definitely a step in the right direction. “If I pass the test, which is mostly personal, then it will be a wonderful experience to race with these young men in an endurance race," said Rob Dyson. “Right now, we're learning what the car is like. I drove a Crawford (Daytona) Prototype this summer and I'm just getting used to driving a closed-cockpit car again. It's been a long time. We'll get acquainted with the car, power and tires. It should be an interesting day tomorrow, and we'll see how the program progresses from there."
“My dad and I really want to do the Daytona race, and this opportunity came along," added Chris. “We have an eye towards doing the Rolex 24, and we would really like to be there in February. At this point we're looking at this weekend, but with a view towards the Rolex. Beyond that, who knows? Right now we have a pretty full plate next season. This is a good place to be competing. The Rolex 24 At Daytona transcends everything, and we are hoping to be there.
