Johansson and Moreno eye Grand-Am

Stefan Johansson and Roberto Moreno tested a Daytona Prototype for the first time last week at Homestead. Both said they were in negotiation to drive the Crawford-Pontiac owned by amateur racer Bob Ward. Johansson stated that he is exploring several options for Daytona and is determined to be on the grid for the February 3-4 race (the opening round of the Grand-American Sportscar Series) for the first time since 2002. Victory would make him only the eighth driver to have completed the hat-trick of wins in the Le Mans, Sebring and Daytona sportscar classics. Johansson, 48, said: “It’s a definite motivation on my part to try to win that race. I’d like to be part of that club. Driving with Bob is one option, but I’m talking to other teams as well. Daytona is always a fun race to do and I was surprised at the performance of the car." Moreno, who admitted that he was exploring options in sportscar racing last summer (Autosport, July 1), said: “I didn’t get much time in the car, but it was good to drive again after sitting out 2004. “Daytona would be a good way to start the season and I’d look at doing some more Daytona Prototypes if I don’t get a drive in either Champ Cars or IRL IndyCars."
