Infiniti dumps IRL’s IPS Series
UPDATE To rub more salt in the IRL wounds, it seems that Menards has dropped sponsorship of the Pro Series as well. Maybe Honda will step up and supply engines and sponsorship for the Pro Series too as they appear to be the only company who still believes in the IRL's business plan. 01/04/06 Word on the street is that the IRL has lost yet another major car manufacturer as we hear Infiniti has axed their sponsorship of the Infiniti Pro Series and the series will now be called the Indy Pro Series (see new logo to left). We await the official announcement from the IRL.
With Chevy and Toyota also leaving this year, the IRL under Tony George's leadership has managed to lose three major car manufacturers in one year. Even CART wasn't that bad. The only reason Honda stayed was because as sole engine supplier they saw a cash cow in the IRL. Tell us one more time Tony why we needed the IRL, but to destroy the sport?
