TransAm staging a comeback?

Road America officials won't comment on the details of their "TBA" weekend, but it appears the revived Trans-Am Series will be the headliner.

According to a schedule announcement Tuesday from the F2000 Championship Series, that open-wheel steppingstone division will race a doubleheader Aug. 6-8 at Road America in conjunction with Trans-Am. Given that, it's likely the weekend would be filled out by a variety of series involving advanced amateur and low-level professional drivers.

A product of the pony car era, Trans-Am peaked in the late 1960s and early '70s with such drivers as Mark Donohue and Parnelli Jones. It continued in good health well into the '90s but petered out and ultimately went dormant in 2007 and '08.
