Busch and Edwards put on six-race probation
NASCAR announced Wednesday it has placed Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards on probation for the next six Sprint Cup Series races as a result of their on-track brush on the cool-down lap of last Saturday night's Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. The sanctioning body said that Joe Gibbs Racing's Busch and Roush Fenway Racing's Edwards both violated NASCAR's rule against hitting another competitor’s car after the conclusion of a race.
Busch and Edwards, who are 1-2 in the series standings with a combined 14 wins in 2008, first made contact late in Saturday night's race when Edwards nudged Busch out of the way to take the lead with 31 laps remaining. Busch, who finished second to Edwards, bumped into Edwards on the cool-down lap to express his displeasure with the Roush Fenway driver's winning move. Edwards immediately retaliated by spinning Busch before doing his traditional backflip and heading to victory lane.
The probation takes effect beginning with this weekend’s Pepsi 400 at Auto Club Speedway in California. SceneDaily.com
