Tracy going testing in Dubai

Not quite a week removed from his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut, 2003 Champ Car champion Paul Tracy is taking his show to the other side of the globe. After an impressive showing at Texas Motor Speedway in Germain Racing’s #9 Bombardier Learjet/Sport Clips Toyota Tundra, Tracy has been invited to a SPEEDCAR Series test in Dubai. A literal last-second deal, Tracy is departing today for the Arabian Peninsula.

The SPEEDCAR Series is quickly becoming one of the most popular racing series in the world, as they have lured many former Formula 1 drivers, such as Jean Alesi, Johnny Herbert, Gianni Morbidelli, Jacques Villeneuve and Stefan Johansson. The Asia and Middle East-based stock car racing series also features a $3 million (USD) purse and offers a $10,000 (USD) award for the drivers who capture the pole position for each respective race.

Tracy’s stock car experience will allow him to adapt quickly when he hits the track this weekend at the Dubai Autodrome. Aside from his most recent NASCAR appearance in the Truck Series on October 31st, Tracy piloted the #34 Sport Clips car and the #4 GEICO car in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2006. Tracy’s 31 wins is tops among the former Champ Car World Series, but he has always had a passion for driving stock cars.

Recognized as one of the most colorful personalities in auto racing, Tracy is looking forward to arriving in the Persian Gulf region.

“It’s a great opportunity to do something that I have fun doing, which is racing stock cars," Tracy said. “Everyone knows how much visibility the SPEEDCAR Series is receiving and the quality of drivers that it is attracting. I have driven many different types of race cars, and this trip to Dubai will only add to my long list of racing experiences." He continued, “I’m appreciative of the opportunity and I’m looking forward to getting over there and having fun."
