Mazda renews with Atlantic series

Mazda has renewed its contract as official sponsor and engine partner of the Atlantic Championship for three more years, taking a relationship that began in 2006 through to the end of 2011.

Under the agreement, all Atlantic Championship cars will continue to be powered by production-based, Cosworth-prepped 2.3-litre MZR engines capable of producing 300 horsepower, while Mazda will continue to actively promote the championship through its various marketing programmes.

“While we are most recognised for sportscar racing, Mazda has been involved in open-wheel racing since 1984," noted senior vice-president Robert Davis, the man responsible for the brand's North American motorsports operations under the Mazdaspeed banner, “Along with our partners in the Atlantic Championship, Cooper Tyres, Swift Engineering and Cosworth, we look forward to the next chapter in Atlantic history."
