Barrett Mertins to make Atlantic debut with Jensen
Barrett Mertins (19) will drive the #2 Jensen MotorSport car in the Atlantic race at the famous Laguna Seca road course on the weekend October 9th-11th, 2009.
Mertins, who lives in Alexandria Virginia, recently completed his first race season as a driver in the Formula BMW Americas championship. With no prior karting or car racing experience, Mertins developed his skills at an impressive rate in the BMW series scoring many top ten finishes en route to an 11th place finish in the championship.
Jensen MotorSport team owner Eric Jensen states, “Our team is very excited to see how quickly Barrett’s skills have developed. Our team has an impressive history with driver developing programs, and Barrett looks to be one of our brightest prospects yet."
Barrett Mertins states, “It’s hard to imagine we have accomplished so much with my driving since we started this program in January. Much thanks to my family and to the team for their support to allow me to have so much seat time during the past year. I am so excited to be driving on the same Atlantic grid with so many super talented professional drivers, and to have my first Atlantic experience on the Laguna Seca circuit is awesome."
