Daly continues to crisscross the globe

MAZDASPEED driver Conor Daly continues to crisscross the Atlantic Ocean as he heads to Belgium to take in Round’s 13 & 14 of the GP3 Series. Starting with the German Grand Prix weekend, July 23rd-24th, Conor will have visited nine different countries in eight consecutive weekends as he finishes out his GP3 and Indy Lights seasons.
“The hectic travel schedule was good to me a few months back," comments Daly. “I came off of a 14 hour flight, missed the first day of practice and still won in Long Beach. I am particularly looking forward to Spa because it is just such an awesome track to race on. People always talk about Spa – it’s historically significant, challenging and really fast."
Although he never officially tested at Spa, the day after the Hungarian GP3 race, July 31st, Daly did take part in a track day driving a Caterham Seven. This at least made him familiar with the circuit lay out. He will spend the Tuesday of race week on Carlin’s simulator at their Aldershot facility. “I am not owed anything from GP3 but I feel like I owe my team a podium for all of their hard work and support of me. I believe as they do, that we have the speed to do that and putting all of the pieces together this weekend will be the big effort," said Daly.
The full weekend of racing at Spa will be followed by a return to America for the inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix as Daly rejoins his Sam Schmidt Motorsports team. Immediately following the weekend Daly will return to Europe, heading to Monza for the final round of the GP3 Series.
This past weekend Daly returned to England from America where he took in the Renault World Series race held at Silverstone. “That is a car I would like to race right there, they look and sound fantastic. I could hardly believe the size of the crowd at Silverstone. It was like a Grand Prix weekend" said Daly. He also spent time with fellow Derek Daly Academy driver Tatiana Calderon as she tested an F3 car at Rockingham Park with Team West-Tec.
The upcoming rounds at Spa and Monza will be the lowest down force tracks that the GP3 Series drivers will see all season. Daly will split those two high-speed venues with the newly created street race taking place in Baltimore, Maryland. Recently Daly ran strong in another street race, the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres, where he paced the lead car until contact with the wall in the closing laps ended his day.
