UPDATE This rumor from last Friday is now upgraded to ‘fact’ with today’s announcement.

07/27/20 This rumor is upgraded to ‘strong’ today with word that Monday (today) it will be announced that the Portland race will be cancelled and replaced with a 2nd race (doubleheader) at Mid-Ohio.

We still expect the Laguna Seca IndyCar race to also be cancelled and replaced with a 2nd race at Gateway or the Indy Road Course (or both) to end the season.

07/24/20 Due to restrictions on travel and people gathering in one location in Covid impacted states, we hear the west coast back-to-back Portland and Laguna Seca IndyCar races may get cancelled and replaced with races where IndyCar team personnel can drive to (think Midwest) and not fly.

There are not many other Midwest venues for IndyCar to pick from unless they run doubleheaders at the remaining scheduled races. There are places like Michigan and Chicago Superspeedways that could be rented from NASCAR, but doubleheaders have proven to be more economical.
