Champ Car drivers eye Rolex 24 ride

UPDATE #2 We are told the Ganassi car had only Telmex on it because it still had its paint scheme from the season-ending Mexico City race where Telmex sponsored the car. Look for CompUSA to be back on the car in 2006. 12/05/05 Photos from today's testing at Homestead courtesy of our partners South Florida Motorsports. Officially Tracy is just testing and hasn't signed on with any team. The Ganassi Cars are sponsored by Telmex. The only sign of Target is on some of the crews shirts.

12/05/05 Seen testing a Grand-Am prototype car today in Homestead were Champ Car regulars Paul Tracy (driving this time for Andy Wallace) and RuSPORT drivers AJ Allmendinger and Justin Wilson. Ryan Briscoe is testing with the SunTrust team, last year's winners. We assume it is in anticipation for a Rolex 24 ride in January where 40 prototypes are expected (at 3 drivers each that's 120 drivers needed). The Grand-Am cars have the track today and tomorrow.

Also on hand are Ryan Hunter-Reay, Bobby and Graham Rahal (Bobby is watching his son test a GT2 Porsche), Eddie Cheever with his new Grand-Am Daytona Prototype team and Leonardo Maia who is still looking for a ride in Champ Car or Grand-Am after dominating the last year of the Barber Dodge Pro Series. The Honda IRL trailer is parked here, we assume for an upcoming IRL test, and the new USAC Silver Crown superspeedway cars. Mark C.
