Montoya to run in Rolex 24

While Daytona International Speedway was abuzz with intrigue about the first IndyCar appearance at the "World Center of Racing" in decades during the first of two days of testing on Tuesday, media reports emanating from the track's media center suggest a power trio in the making for the 2007 Rolex 24 At Daytona.

SPEEDTV.com and RacingOne.com have reported that 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series rookie Juan Pablo Montoya will likely co-drive the defending race champion No. 02 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Lexus Riley 2006 with Rolex 24 At Daytona overall winners Scott Dixon and Dan Wheldon, according to comments attributed to Dixon. The car would once again join the No. 01 CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing Lexus Riley, which was driven full-time in the 2006 Rolex Series by Scott Pruett and Luis Diaz, as part of a two-car program.

"I know it's going to be a Target car," said Dixon, the 2003 Indy Racing League IndyCar Series champion. "I know they have been talking about me and Dan and Montoya as well."

The trio would represent three open-wheel championships, as Montoya was the 1999 Champ Car World Series champion and Wheldon claimed the 2005 IndyCar title. Montoya also won the Indianapolis 500 in his first and only appearance in 2000, while Wheldon–the 2005 Indy winner–became one of only a handful of drivers to own an open-wheel championship, Indy 500 victory and a Rolex 24 At Daytona victory with his triumph in the 2006 Rolex 24 At Daytona alongside Dixon and NASCAR's Casey Mears.
