NASCAR COT has more flaws
03/30/07 Drivers are expressing concern with the front splitter on the car of tomorrow, saying the aerodynamic device may have some unintended consequences. Reigning Nextel Cup champion Jimmie Johnson said the splitter, a shelf that sits close to the race track on the nose of the car, could cut easily down tires of other competitors.
“I think the splitter is a real problem and something to think about," the Hendrick Motorsports driver said. I think Kasey Kahne had a tire go down right in front of me. I saw just light contact, and it cut his left-rear tire."
The contact came from Clint Bowyer, who couldn’t believe Kahne’s tire went down.
“Usually when you get into somebody and they wreck, you pretty much know it," Bowyer said. “It was one of those things where I just barely felt something. My spotter, Mike Dillon, was saying, ‘Outside, outside. Clear. Caution’s out.’ I’m like, ‘It wasn’t the 9 car, was it?’ And it was. “It was really close racing, and [I] must’ve hit it just right and cut it down. It was weird because I was beating and banging a lot more than that out there." Scene Daily
