08/02/09 The NASCAR Sprint Cup Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 is being delayed after heavy Sunday morning showers at Pocono Raceway.
The engines were scheduled to be cranked at 2:08 p.m. EDT, but the rain did not end until about 12:45 p.m., and NASCAR officials had not been able to completely dry the track by 3:30 p.m. because of intermittent drizzle and weepers in the corners.
According to the National Weather Service’s Web site, there is a 70 percent chance of rain through 7 p.m. but the radar is showing the bulk of the current storm has passed through the area.
If the race is not run today, it will be run Monday.
