(GMM) Speedway motorbike racer Jason Crump has thanked his Australian countryman Mark Webber upon winning his latest world title.
After winning the Brazilian grand prix on Sunday, Red Bull's Webber told the few reporters in the FIA press conference at Interlagos that Crump, 34, was a "very close friend of mine".
Webber, 33, said Crump had achieved his title with a "very bad" injury.
It emerges that the injury was to Crump's left arm, and that Webber arranged for a physio to accompany the rider to Poland to treat the injury.
"It was a brilliant gesture. It made a big difference," Crump told The Sun.
Said Webber: "I'm very happy for him that he's won the world title and Casey (Stoner) won the (MotoGP) motorbikes, so it was a good day for us (Australian) guys."
