Vickers doesn’t expect Toyota to struggle

Brian Vickers says that while he does expect Toyota to go through growing pains in the manufacturer's first season at the Nextel Cup level, he doesn't expect Camry teams to struggle. Vickers joins the upstart Team Red Bull after driving Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolets for his first three seasons of Cup racing.

"I would rather always been underestimated and overachieve," Vickers said Monday after rain shortened the first day of testing at Daytona International Speedway. "It is a new program, a new manufacturer, a lot of new teams, and there's going to be a learning curve. But I don't think 'struggle' is the right word at all for any of the teams or the manufacturer. It's part of the process."

Vickers cited Dodge's return to Cup in 2001 as proof Toyota teams could do well. Dodge won four races that season and started the year on the pole for the Daytona 500.

"I see Toyota doing that, maybe even a little bit better hopefully," Vickers said. Scenedaily.com
