Legge Wins SPEED Performance Award

Champ Car World Series driver Katherine Legge was honored last night at the inaugural SPEED Performance Awards. Legge won the award for Biggest Hit of 2007 for her spectacular crash, from which she walked away unscathed, during the Champ Car Grand Prix of Road America at Elkhart Lake last September.

Legge, who tested the Dale Coyne Panoz DP01 car at the Sebring open test in January, was on hand to receive her award, even if it was an honor any race car driver would rather do without.

“I'm glad I am still here to accept this award, it was a pretty serious deal but the Champ Car Safety Team was right there on the spot and did a great job of taking care of me," said the 26-year-old Brit, after being presented the award by Grey’s Anatomy star and budding sportscar driver Patrick Dempsey. “Hopefully I won't be back to win this again next year!"

Up next for Legge and the rest of the Champ Car field will be the much-awaited MSR Houston open test which takes place February 12 -13. This second open test of the season will mark the first time that drivers and teams will have the chance to test the new standing-start procedure that will be used throughout the season at events where they can be accommodated in a safe manner.
