SMI sees decline in ticket sales
Speedway Motorsports Inc. saw a decrease in admissions revenue in 2006 from 2005 of over $2M. Talking to financial analysts Wednesday concerning the company's 2006 results, Humpy Wheeler talked about the decline in admissions revenue of $177.35 million in 2005 to $175.2 million in 2006 for the SMI tracks (Lowe's, Infineon, Texas, Atlanta, Bristol and Las Vegas).
"The major decline was something that everybody has experienced, particularly those with over 100,000 seats," Humpy Wheeler said. "The higher-priced premium seating, we're not having any problem selling at all. It's the seating where you can't see the pit road. Pit stops have become quite important with the fans as well as TV."
