BMW boss undecided about Friday plans

Pre-season, the German proudly announced that teenage protégé Sebastian Vettel will replace one of the race drivers in the morning session at each grand prix.

But following the criticism of Nick Heidfeld, and the fact that he struggled to set up his car with limited track time when it was his turn to relinquish his cockpit, Theissen announced that BMW will re-think the strategy.

Vettel did not participate in Bahrain, and it is not certain if he will be back in action next month at Barcelona, where it is believed that his schedule will nonetheless make him available.

To the 'sid' news agency, Theissen hinted that it is the format at fault rather than BMW's approach; a belief backed by Bernie Ecclestone, who wants to make it compulsory for a race driver to step aside for a youngster on each GP Friday in the future.

Mario Theissen said: "I would prefer if the Friday regulations had turned out the way they had been originally intended — as a test day and not a practice day."
