Champ Car to test at Portland International Raceway

The Champ Car World Series will be testing the new DP01 race car at Portland International Raceway May 1st through the 3rd. The DP01, now with three races behind it, will be looking for the magic set-up on the venerable 1.964 mile permanent road course. The long awaited chassis was the result of eight months and 20,000 man hours of engineering and design. This will be Portland’s only up close and personal look at the cars prior to the June 8th-10th race.

Teams slated to test will be Minardi Team USA, Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing, PKV Racing, RSports and Pacific Coast Motorsports. Some teams may only test on the Tuesday and Wednesday dates saving the additional time to test at other sites later in the season.

Fans are welcome to join in the 3-day affair. On Tuesday season ticket holders will be able to pick up their tickets at PIR in the Paddock area from ticket director Paul Kovin. Those who have not yet purchased tickets will be able to do so on-site as well.

Plans for a “meet the teams" function to be held at a yet to be named site on Tuesday evening will be announced on Friday.

This is the 24th running of the Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland Presented by Joe’s Sports, Outdoor and More. The race, which will be broadcast live on 1190 KEX, has been moved from its usual Father’s Day date to June 8-10 in honor of 100th anniversary of the Portland Rose Festival. Tickets are on sale at all Joe's ticketmaster locations.
