Penske: Teams separate

Roger Penske insisted Sunday the car to be driven by Ryan Briscoe in the 500 will be independently operated even though the team owner is Penske's son, Jay.

"It's all people we know (working on the car), and many of them are people from our organization," said Penske, who also has NASCAR and American LeMans programs in his facility in Mooresville, N.C. "But as far as it being our team, no, it's not. It's a separate program.

"My son found the sponsor (Norton 360, a software company), he put it together and his group will be running the show."

Briscoe's No. 12 car, leased from Penske, will be led by IROC president Jay Signore and engineered by Nigel Beresford, a Penske employee who is the lead engineer on the ALMS program. Indy Star
