Champ Car F1x2 program going hot and heavy

After a nine-week intermission, European Minardi personnel are now definitely back in harness as the Champ Car F1x2 program embarks on an extremely busy summer.

Last weekend, the two-seaters, now resplendent in the orange, silver and white colors of the Champ Car World Series, and with regular drivers Zsolt Baumgartner and Patrick Friesacher at the wheel, put on a spectacular display at Cleveland’s Burke Lakefront Airport as part of Champ Car’s race weekend activities at the well-attended Ohio event.

Between them, Baumgartner and Friesacher took 20 lucky individuals for high-speed passenger rides around the 2.106-mile (3.39-km) airfield circuit, situated on the shores on Lake Erie, during the course of the three-day event. They included Ohio State Senator, Tom Sawyer, the Chairman and CEO of Sherwin Williams, Chris Connor, and Jim Shanks, Executive Vice President of CDW, as well as a number of corporate guests and media representatives from the Cleveland area.

Team personnel have now relocated to the famous Mont-Tremblant circuit, in the picturesque Laurentian region of Quebec, scene of this weekend’s sixth round of the Champ Car World Series. Offering a complete change of pace from the flat, wide-open runways of the Cleveland track, the drivers and their passengers will experience the swoops, dips and blind brows of this full-blooded road circuit, once the scene of the Canadian Grand Prix.

Before the weekend’s activities get under way, however, the Champ Car F1x2 Team will be providing 10 passenger rides to media representatives on Wednesday, in order to provide the closest possible view of the circuit and assist them to get a feel for what the drivers in this weekend’s Grand Prix of Mont-Tremblant will experience.

“As has become the norm, Champ Car F1x2 personnel once again received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from fans throughout the Cleveland weekend," comments Team Principal and Minardi Team USA Co-owner, Paul Stoddart. “The cars look terrific in their new Champ Car livery, and sounded great out on the open expanses of the Burke Lakefront Airport. There’s no doubt, though, that they will really be in their element at Mont-Tremblant this weekend, and I know Patrick and Zsolt are definitely looking forward to running there. The noise of the Champ Car F1x2 cars echoing around this famous circuit should be wonderful, and I’m sure the passengers can look forward to an extra-special experience!"

Following the Mont-Tremblant event, the team moves south, into the Province of Ontario, for what will undoubtedly be another exciting weekend, at the Steelback Grand Prix of Toronto. They then have a weekend off, to catch their breath, before appearing in Edmonton, Alberta, and San Jose, California, on consecutive weekends.
