McLaren not at war – drivers

(GMM) McLaren's main players had a clear message for the formula one media on Friday — all is now well behind closed doors.

The press has been intrigued by the apparent falling out between team drivers Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton since the Hungarian grand prix three weeks ago.

But, following a sequence of meetings at the plush Conrod hotel in downtown Istanbul on Thursday, Alonso, Hamilton and boss Ron Dennis arrived at the venue of the Turkish grand prix on Friday convinced that hostilities are now at an end.

"We will try now to put it behind us," Spaniard Alonso told reporters here.

"It is not a problem any more, because now would be the wrong time to dwell on what happened in Hungary. We try to become world champions, so we must think about Turkey and the next six races."

Hamilton put a great deal of the responsibility for the spat on the media's doorstep.

He said of the controversy: "It obviously sells a lot more papers, but we are not at war.

"The fact is that we get on well. We don't have any issues; we are not fighting. We are just two extremely competitive drivers."
