Will the last exiting IRL driver please turn out the lights

Will the last IndyCar Series star on his way to NASCAR please turn out the lights and close the door.

While the focus over the weekend at Chicagoland Speedway was on another in a series of IndyCar championship battles going down to the season-finale, the underlying buzz was provided by word that Dario Franchitti will leave to join team owner Chip Ganassi's NASCAR Nextel Cup team in 2008 and beyond.

Neither Franchitti nor Ganassi would talk about the move. But neither were they denying it, even as Franchitti went about the business of beating Ganassi driver Scott Dixon for his first open-wheel title.

Never mind that Franchitti said recently he has yet to even sit in a stock car.

"It's an exciting series, isn't it?" the 34-year-old Scot said of the Cup. "It's the biggest racing series in America and I certainly would like to see what it feels like to drive one of those cars." More a AP Article
