Wimmer out for Daytona 500

Scott Wimmer won’t race in the Daytona 500 this year as he had hoped. Wimmer drives part time in both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series for Richard Childress Racing, but Kirk Shelmerdine, who won four championships as a crew chief with the team, drove RCR’s fourth car in the opening Sprint Cup testing this week at Daytona International Speedway. “It was a race that maybe we were going to run but we weren’t 100% sure; we didn’t have sponsorship," said Wimmer, who placed third in the 500 in 2004. “Kirk ended up coming with some sponsorship dollars. I’ll still be there in the Busch car, and I’m looking forward to doing some more testing in the Cup car and maybe running some races after Daytona." Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
