Two Roush trucks wrecked in testing

Inexperience and aggressive driving turned the last 45 minutes of Friday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series test at Daytona International Speedway into a wild, emotionally charged crash-fest. In a span of 20 minutes there were two multi-truck accidents on opposite ends of the 2.5-mile tri-oval involving a half-dozen competitors. It was the first day of a three-day test for NCTS teams.

"A lot of these guys are really out of control right now," said Ted Musgrave, who was swept into the second incident exiting Turn 2.

It was an especially bad day for Roush Fenway Racing, which saw two of its three teams pack up and head back to North Carolina with significant structural damage.

Rookie Colin Braun, driving the No. 6 Ford, said he was turned around in the tri-oval by the No. 51 Toyota of Kyle Busch. Braun's machine snapped around colliding with teammate Joey Clanton, in the No. 09 Ford.

Asked if Busch made contact on the tri-oval, Braun said, "That's sure what it felt like to me. I don't know. It sure felt like somebody got in the back of me and that truck just took off like crazy."

Clanton was especially hot after the incident.

"He got into Colin and got him upset through the tri-oval and that ain't the place to do it," he said.

But Busch said he didn't touch Braun's Ford. He said Clanton's side-draft actually pulled Braun's machine around.

"He (Clanton) got within the air that comes off the front of the nose and it looked like it pulled him into the No. 6," Busch said. "When they touched, they both steered up towards the wall."

Todd Bodine, who was riding behind the trucks that wrecked, said it was a "bonehead" move on Busch's part.

"It's a shame it happened," Bodine said. "It's the first day of testing, the first drafting practice and he was a rookie kid and you don't do those types of things. It's a shame it wrecked both Roush trucks." Daytona Beach News Journal
