Barcelona Practice 2: Renault steps up its game

Kimi Raikkonen remained on top in the second Friday practice session in Barcelona Friday, with the two Renaults very close behind, but on soft tires. With hometown hero Fernando Alonso just 0.097s out of first place the Spaniards on hand very excited, it meant the new upgrades for Renault may be working.

The top runners concentrated on heavier fuel loads for much of the afternoon, and Raikkonen's time was a full 1.3 seconds slower than he had managed this morning when he was also fastest.

His Ferrari teammate Felipe Massa was fifth fastest, while the two McLarens of Hamilton and Kovalainen were only 11th and 16th.
