Teams not using ‘shark fin’ bodywork

(GMM) Both the Toyota and McLaren formula one teams decided against using 'shark fin' engine covers at Hockenheim.

The two outfits tried the concept – debuted by Red Bull this year and emulated at grands prix by Toro Rosso, Renault and Force India – at the test at the German circuit last week.

It is understood McLaren did not discover any adverse effects of the striking solution, but simply want to gather more information about the engine cover – including how the car balance is affected by stronger winds – at a subsequent test.

Toyota, meanwhile, only briefly ran the shark fin-style engine cover last week, before Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock took to the drizzly Hockenheim circuit on Friday morning with its usual conventional bodywork.
